Back in April I was lucky enough to get the chance to photograph Lori and Mark’s engagement photos in the stunning Zion National Park in Utah, USA!
Lori is a kiwi and Mark is American. They are both really good rowers and met while at University in Michigan. Since graduating they have had to spend quite a bit of time apart due to jobs in different states but are now reunited and living together in Detroit.
The flew on a very early morning flight from Detroit to Las Vegas to meet up with me.
We drove 2 hours into Utah, found our Air BnB and went into Zion to scout out some locations for the next day.
There were a lot of tracks closed due to rock falls and flash flooding. We came up with a plan to get up early and hike up Angels Landing (just for fun) and then later in the evening hike up to Watchman’s Lookout and do a sunset shoot. The following morning we would shoot sunrise in the wilderness area outside of the National Park.
The hike up to Watchman’s Lookout was pretty easy and only took 45min. We were surrounded by that beautiful red dirt and that held a strong warm glow even after the sun had set.
Here is a little taste of the views and fun we had up there!
The next morning we woke up early and drove into the wilderness to photograph the sunrise in a spot we had scouted the day before. It was a really different look to the previous evening.
A little further down the road was a popular rock climbing spot. Lori switched into her other dress and we got some photos in by the red cliffs.
That afternoon after coffee and crepes we headed out to another area in St George with canyons.
It was a big 4 days of exploring and we had such a good time!
The landscapes here are just gorgeous and so different to anything we have in New Zealand.
The hike up Angels Landing was just stunning. I’m so pleased we got the very first shuttle and got up there before the crowds. This would be such an amazing place to do a session but the overcrowding kinda scares me with 1000ft drops with no barriers up at the top! It wouldn’t take much to send someone over the edge.
We drove back to Vegas and spent the night eating our weight in food at the Cheesecake Factory before crashing and watching Game of Thrones.
The next morning Lori and Mark headed back to Detroit and I headed off to Sydney.
I loved getting to spend four days in this amazing part of the USA with them and get to know all about their love story (which is pretty damn cute). It all went waaaaay too fast and I can’t wait to find myself back here again in the future!
