I finished up the 2020 wedding season in Borland with Rachael and Phil!
The forecast was for rain all day and unfortunately that's exactly what it delivered.
Borland is an awesome venue - with all of your guests able to stay on site and enjoy a full weekend of celebrations.
I started out with the guys at Borland - they all seemed very relaxed despite the puddles forming and rain getting heavier.
Rach was getting ready at Monowai Village just a 5 minute drive from the Lodge.
There were so many little details that made the day so special. Rachael has her great grandmothers engagement ring and original ring box!
The helicopter had to be called off so we headed down to Lake Monowai for a first look and photos with the bridal party. Phil had a surprise for Rachael, a picture with maps of where they first met, got engagement and got married!
After an hour of relaxing, taking photos and having a few drinks we all headed to Borland for the ceremony! It was taking place in the forest, and they had created an aisle out of old tree logs and set everything up in this little clearing. Thankfully it kept us dry and they had a beautiful ceremony.
They both wrote their own vows that were some of the most heartfelt and emotional vows I have ever heard. It takes a lot of courage to write your own vows and say them in front of your loved ones.
Just before we went into the reception, Rach surprised Phil with a bag pipper and his nieces doing a Highland dance. There were tears all round - it was such a cool moment.
The clear marquee looked incredible and kept everyone dry for a night of good food, good speeches, good wine and lots of partying!
